How will this course benefit me?

This course will benefit anyone who would like to further their clothesmaking skills.  This course will introduce you to basic pattern cutting skills and techniques which you will be able to incorporate into your clothesmaking.


What are the entry requirements?

This course is for those with a keen interest in creating their own designs within their clothesmaking.  You will need to have some knowledge of clothesmaking and how a garment goes together.  There will be some sewing involved.


What will I learn?

You will learn a variety of basic techniques in creating pattern details, which will be taught to you step by step.  You’ll be working from a standard size block and you’ll explore how to create a range of pattern pieces for the bodice, skirt etc. and how to adapt patterns. 


How will the course be delivered?

Demonstration, practical work, one-to-one and group work and discussion.


How will my learning be assessed?

You will receive feedback from your tutor, who will assess you informally.


What are the extra costs?

Learners will need to purchase a *Graders pattern cutting set square,  a *tracing wheel and large scissors (from Morplan suppliers - see next page).  These items are compulsory. Also a note book, pen and 4H pencil, a sewing kit (consisting of measuring tape, pins, scissors, un-picker and sewing needles).  There will also be an additional cost for calico.

Further courses at the Institute, or with other external providers.
