How will this course benefit me?
This course is designed for adults to learn with children
Learners will develop their knowledge about science in a fun and interesting way.
Adults will learn the basic skills and knowledge that could inspire and enhance career prospects
What are the entry requirements?
CHILDREN ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ACCOMPANYING ADULT.
A maximum of 2 children per adult.
Children must be 5 years and over.
You will need a basic level of English
You must be able to commit to the full course with the intention of attending every session
What will I learn?
This course is designed for adults to learn with children.
It gives a fun and interesting introduction to science, why things work the way they do, how we use science in our everyday lives and how we can have fun with science.
This course is designed to introduce parents and children to science which links into the national
curriculum in primary schools.
How will the course be delivered?
Verbal instructions and explanations, demonstrations
Interactive teaching, experiments, individual, pair and group work.
Adults will be supporting their children’s learning
How will my learning be assessed?
Informal assessment through question and answer sessions, observation and individual learning plans
What are the extra costs?
Please wear comfortable clothing and closed toed shoes.
What can I progress to next?
Keeping Up With the Children – Science, Maths and English courses and Employability Workshops held at the Institute.
Health and Safety requirements?
Learners will be advised of health and safety issues at each session.
You will need to follow your teacher’s advice and guidance to ensure that you are participating safely and following Health and Safety procedures
Children must be closely monitored by accompanying adult when performing experiments
Please note: you must inform your tutor if you are unable to attend for any sessions or you may not be able to enrol on future Family Learning courses.
Courses are subject to a minimum number of enrolments and could be cancelled if recruitment is low. Where possible an alternative class will be offered at a different time/location.
