How will this course benefit me?
This course will be delivered by an experienced and qualified tutor in this field.
Many people may be surprised to learn that yoga was originally designed for men. Over the last hundred years yoga has evolved and more recently more yoga practitioners are adapting the traditional yoga poses to suit women’s bodies better. It is of course obvious that women have a different cycle of life to that of men, with hormones affecting different stages of their lives. Yoga can help women through various stages of this cycle, from menstruation, fertility, breast health, perimenopause, menopause, post-natal recovery, and yoga for healthy aging.
What are the entry requirements?
This is a women only class. No previous knowledge of yoga is required. If you have recently had a baby you must have had your 6-8wk check with your midwife and been given the ok before you enrol in the class. If you have had a hysterectomy or mastectomy 4-6mths recovery might be needed, with the ok of your GP prior to enrolment. This class is not suitable for pregnant women. If pregnant, you will be much better served in a dedicated pregnancy yoga class. Please contact me and I can help you find a suitable class near you.
What will I learn?
You will learn breathing practices which help increase lung capacity which in turn delivers more oxygen to the body and helps with overall performance and efficiency which can relieve soreness and enhances tissue repair. Some breathing techniques can help with hot flushes and hormone imbalances.
You will learn relaxation techniques which help to promote mental strength and the calming aspects help you get a better night’s sleep. A better sleep can help the body’s natural rest and digest response to heal your body and make you feel more able to deal with your day.
You will learn Asana (yoga poses) which improve circulation, digestion, balance, flexibility and agility. Asana also improves your functional capacity, strength, concentration and endurance. We can improve strength in muscles, tendons, ligaments and freedom in joints. Working on core strength can help improve back and hip problems.
You will learn meditation techniques which improves mindfulness which enables you to feel more confident and in control and reduce anxiety and stress.
We will focus on the womb area which can feel liberating, whether the womb is present or not and honour this space, as well as breast health.
How will the course be delivered?
This will be a 12-week course of 2 hours on yoga mats. You will be encouraged to ask questions. I will be using verbal instruction, demonstration and co perform.
How will my learning be assessed?
You will be encouraged to ask questions. You will be asked to leave feedback throughout.
What are the extra costs?
You will need to bring at least one large blanket or beach towel, two would be better. You will need to bring a pillow or cushion. All other equipment will be provided.
What can I progress to next?
After the workshop you might feel more confident to join a yoga class.
Health & Safety requirements?
Please fill in the health questionnaire before the class starts. Not suitable during pregnancy. You will need to be able to lie on a yoga mat on the floor.
