FAQs

How do I apply?

On deciding the course that you wish to pursue, you will need to complete and apply, by submitting an application form.

What happens after I have submitted my application form?

  • Upon submission, you will receive an acknowledgement email, confirming that the application has been received by the Institute.
  • You will be invited for an assessment, usually within a few weeks following submission of the application form.

What happens on assessment day?

Your assessments will take up to 2 hours. For some subjects like Childcare /Teaching Assistant up to 2.5 hours. You will be asked to do Digital and sometimes also written assessment and this will be followed by a one-to-one interview with the subject tutor, where you will be able to ask questions about the course, discuss days/times of the course and subject suitability.

Why do I need to have an interview?

Some courses require for us to conduct an interview. This is nothing to worry about, it is simply for you to meet your subject expert, who can help you decide if the course is right for you by ensuring the following:

  • You are enrolled on the right course, in order for you to achieve
  • Identify any additional help you might need when studying on the course
  • Payment of the correct fee to join the course
  • Time that will need to be committed both in and out of class
  • Extra costs that you may incur, such as books and equipment
  • Discuss what financial support you may be eligible for
  • Consideration for any childcare arrangements
  • Confirmation of your personal details and documents

Can I enrol without an interview?

If your course requires for you to have an interview, we cannot take your enrolment without it

What does Residency and Entitlement mean?

  • If your course requires an interview you will receive an invitation letter, informing you on what you will need to bring with you on the day.
  • This may include proof of identity and residency in the UK/EU, asylum or refugee papers.

What documents can I bring for Evidence of Residency?

3. Employment Status / Income Evidence

If employed and earning under £28,860/year:

  • Payslip (within 3 months)
  • Universal Credit statement (income section only)

If unemployed:

  • JSA evidence
  • ESA evidence
  • UC evidence

If unemployed but not on benefits, additional discussion/evidence may be required.

Can I get support due to disability or learning difficulty?

  • You can get support during assessment/ interview process- please inform us prior to your appointment (i.e. as soon as you receive appointment confirmation) so that we can arrange assistance when you arrive at the Institute.
  • You can also receive support in the classroom; if you feel you would benefit from the extra help. You can discuss that with the subject tutor during your initial meeting who will direct you to see one of our Learner Support Assistant who will carry out a short assessment to see how best we can support you so you can achieve the best results.

Will I get help with employment?

  • There will be a lot of support throughout your time with us, starting from the moment you complete your enrolment, when you will be given the opportunity to book an appointment with Learning and careers or with Work Redbridge.
  • Both services  will offer an Information and Guidance session to support your progression into employment, including revising and updating CV, search for jobs, prepare for interview.
  • We also have wide range of short employability workshops taught by experienced tutors , which run throughout the academic year.

Are the courses free?

You may be entitled to a fully funded course; however, this depends on the type of course and your current circumstances.

Concession Discount Description
ESOL Free

ESOL courses may be free if you can evidence your annual income is below £28,860 a year or are unemployed and living in London.

Maths and English Free

Maths and English courses may be free at Entry Level to Level 2 if you do not already hold a GCSE English or Maths qualification grade 4 (C) or higher.

Digital Entitlement Free

Digital Skills courses (Entry Level to Level 1) may be free if you are assessed as being below Level 1 and do not have a digital skills Level 1 qualification.

Level 2 entitlement Free

The majority of our Level 2 qualifications for adults are free if you meet any of the below eligibility:

  • If you are age 19 to 23 and do not have a Level 2 or above qualification, you will be fully funded if you study a full Level 2 qualification.
  • If you are age 24+ and are unemployed looking for work.
  • If you are age 24+ and are in receipt of active benefits.
  • If you are age 24+ and earn less than the London Living Wage (£28,860).
Level 3 entitlement Free

The majority of our Level 3 qualifications for adults are free if you meet any of the below eligibility:

  • If you are age 19 to 23 and do not have a Level 2 or above qualification, you will be fully funded if you study a full Level 3 qualification.
  • If you are age 19+ and are unemployed looking for work.
  • If you are age 19+ and are in receipt of active benefits.
  • If you are age 19+ and earn less than the London Living Wage (£28,860).

Many of our Level 3 courses are under the Free Courses for Jobs scheme.

Can I get financial support?

  • Elligible learners on adult skills funded courses are able to get financial assistance towards childcare payments (to a registered nursery or childminder), travel costs and internet Sim card for people who do not have access to internet at home. 
  • You must have a household income of less than £28,860 gross per year or/and in receipt of a means tested benefit.

Is there parking onsite?

  • The Institute has limited parking spaces, operating a pay and display system at the Gants Hill campus only.
  • You can either phone and pay or pay at the machine.
  • Parking charges, and payment methods are displayed in the car park.

Is there any disabled parking?

  • We have a number of disabled bays for blue badge holders at the Gants Hill campus
  • Once you have parked your car in the dedicated bay, you will need to bring your Blue Badge to Reception for your car details to be entered into the System.
  • The Blue Badge can only be used by the person to whom it is issued.
