Helen Tkachenko former ESOL learner is now an advisor for Work Redbridge

The war in Ukraine happened suddenly and I lost my home, my work and my friends and came to the UK as refugees to stay with a family in Redbridge, with my young family. I needed to find a place to improve my English. Redbridge Institute was really helpful and, on the ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) course, I found a lot of friends and my tutor created a positive atmosphere which helped us all to feel happier.

I now work as an advisor for Work Redbridge. I have also been heavily involved with the Lifeline Community Project and The Redbridge Ukrainian Community Centre (RUCC) and was instrumental in establishing the latter.

RUCC is a partnership initiative involving Vision, Work Redbridge, and the London Borough of Redbridge Homes 4 Ukraine, which exists to help Ukrainians successfully integrate into society, feel more confident, and protected.

Sonal Singh former Childcare & Early Years learner, is now a proud owner of her own nursery

The teaching at Redbridge Institute was second to none. The tutor supported me throughout my time and I grew in confidence to be able to open up my very own nursery. Now as a business owner, I am implementing so much of what I learnt at Redbridge Institute, and putting it into practice

Shilpi Jain, former GCSE Maths learner is now an Information & Guidance advisor at Redbridge Institute

I came to the UK from India and enrolled with Redbridge Institute to study Maths . I was extremely nervous returning back to the classroom after so many years, but the support I received was amazing, which then opened the doors for many more opportunities. I am now working as an information and guidance advisor at Redbridge Institute

Mohammad Nawaz Jahaly – former learner on various courses, now nursing assistant at St Thomas’ Hospital

Since starting with Redbridge Institute, I have completed a variety of different courses starting with IT Beginners, then going onto complete Childcare L1, Award in Education and Training L3, Counselling L2, ITQ L1, Community Interpreting L2, preparing to start as a TA L2 and the Maths challenge. All of the courses have helped me with updating my CV as a job seeker, by helping me keep up to date with current skills and knowledge as well as multitasking. The courses have helped with bonding and networking with other students which has resulted in new friendships.
