Developed in partnership with The Flēot and Work Redbridge, this Careers in Construction course provides you with a quick and easy way to enter this fast-growing sector, as you complete a passport of competencies that are recognised by employers.
What is your passport to Careers in Construction?
A passport is made up of badges that will support you start your new career and is completed in six weeks, including three weeks of on-site work experience.
Your journey will begin with an initial assessment and an advice and guidance session to help you decide if this is the right career path for you.
Employability skills
For a career in the Construction, you need a good level of numeracy as well as skills to be able to communicate well and work as part of a team. Depending on the types of jobs you are interested in, you may need to be in good general physical health. You will complete badges in CV and cover letter writing, interview preparation and teamwork.
Sector specific skills
To be able to work on site, you will complete badges in Digital Skills, Health and Safety in a Construction Environment Level 1 course and obtain a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Card.
You will complete 20 hours of work placement.
What happens next?
When you have completed the passport, you are certified to work as a general labourer and will be able to register with a specialist recruitment agency.
You could also choose to go on to become a skilled trades person, specialising in a trade such as bricklaying, painting, decorating and tiling, plumbing or electrical.
