28 February 2023
We are very happy to announce our Learners of the Month for December 2022 and January 2023.
Learner of the Month for December 2022 is Mariana Shevchuk from ESOL Entry 2 Next Steps course (BI3028) who was nominated by her tutor, Liam Dempsey. In her tutor’s words: “Mariana moved to the UK from Ukraine in Spring 2022 and is currently working part time whilst attending her ESOL course with a view to gaining employment in an office.
Mariana has demonstrated exceptional behaviour, punctuality, attendance and attitude since beginning her studies at the Institute in September 2022. She is an effervescent learner who is curious to learn more and asks insightful questions. She always goes the extra mile to complete both classwork and homework to a very high standard as well as doing extra study and listening activities. Mariana is also a friendly learner who helps her peers and welcomes new learners into the class with a friendly smile.
She recently completed a book review in which she learnt many new words, traced the main events of the text, obtained relevant information and predicted what will happen in the future.
She achieved very good results in her mock tests and hopes to sit the reading at writing tests for ESOL Entry Two in the summer.”
For January 2023 two learners were selected for the Learner of the Month award:
Amy Vasudevan from Functional Skills Maths Level 1 (BS2340) was nominated by her tutor, Gomathi Karthik. In her tutor’s words: “Amy is an enthusiastic and determined learner. She always hands in her homework and completes her class work on time and her punctuality is excellent. So far she has attained 100% in her Mathswatch assigned work.
Amy has a moderate learning difficulty but that doesn’t stop her from achieving her goals. Her perseverance, resilience and hard work along with the learning strategies she has developed with the help of her LSA, have allowed her to overcome any obstacles and do well in her course. Amy is practising these strategies and is always ready to ask questions where needed.
She recently has been studying extra hard as she wants to achieve a high grade at her next assessment.”
Tahmina Shemin from Preparation for Functional Skills Level 1 (BI3849) was nominated by her tutor, Lily Meszaros. In her tutor’s words: “Tahmina has been a learner at Redbridge Institute since 2016 and has successfully completed a range of courses such as ESOL, Maths, Volunteering and Childcare.
She began her learning journey in an ESOL Entry 2 course and each year she has continued onto the next level, gradually building up her English. She is currently attending ESOL Level 1 Functional Skills and has made excellent progress. Throughout the years, she has not only improved her language knowledge, but attended courses that helped her acquire important self-development and employability skills.
Tahmina is an amazing individual with a friendly personality who dedicates her time to volunteering. She has completed two courses related to volunteering and was keen to put into practice what she had learnt. She has volunteered at Redbridge Institute as a Student Ambassador in the Everyday English project, supporting Everyday English learners in lessons and helped out during assessments. In addition, she is currently volunteering in her local charity shops.
Tahmina’s commitment to improving her English is admirable and her motivation to commit her time to volunteering is exemplary.”
Congratulations to all our Learners of the Month, wishing them all the best with the rest of their course and we are looking forward to seeing their future achievements. Well done!
