Redbridge Institute of Adult Education, the adult education service of the London Borough of Redbridge, has been awarded a slice of the Government’s £165 million Local Skills Improvement Fund.
Redbridge Institute have been awarded a share of the national £165,000,000 Local Skills Improvement Fund program, which allows Further Education Colleges and Skills providers to bid for funding to:
- Provide investment in new facilities and equipment
- Fund the development and delivery of new courses and curriculum
- Support excellence in college leadership, governance and teaching to create a sustainable approach to addressing local skill needs.
William Pickford, Principal of Redbridge Institute of Adult Education said “We are delighted that the London Borough of Redbridge was successful in securing some of this funding as part of a Local London consortia. This will allow us to build a Green and Digital Skills Hub in the Borough, which will be located at our Gants Hill campus, giving local residents access to green jobs, as well as a state-of-the-art digital skills lab. Our thanks go to London South East Colleges group and Newham College of FE who are the lead partners in this consortium.”
Construction work has started, as Councillor Jo Blackman, Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability, visited the site to discuss the Borough’s Climate Action Plan.
Secretary of state for education Gillian Keegan said: “This investment is about boosting local industries, building people’s skills and ultimately future-proofing our economy and the career prospects of the next generation.”
