Building Digital Confidence and Staying Safe Online

On Internet Safety Day, Redbridge Institute of Adult Education is highlighting the importance of staying safe online as an essential part of everyday digital skills.

As more services, learning and communication move online, knowing how to protect personal information, recognise scams and use technology safely is increasingly important. Digital confidence is not just about knowing how to use devices — it’s also about understanding how to stay safe and secure online.

Through our digital skills provision, we support adult learners to:

  • Protect their personal information and understand what to share online

  • Recognise secure websites and manage privacy settings

  • Use email safely and spot suspicious messages

  • Identify and avoid online scams

  • Create strong passwords and protect online accounts

  • Keep devices secure, including when using public Wi-Fi

We also encourage learners to access Learn My Way, a free online learning platform developed by the Good Things Foundation, which offers beginner-friendly courses on internet safety and essential digital skills.

If you would like to build your digital confidence or refresh your skills, digital skills courses starting in April are available at Redbridge Institute of Adult Education.
