Redbridge Institute Awarded National Lottery Funding to Launch “Green Week”
Redbridge Institute has been awarded £3,000 from The National Lottery Community Fund to deliver an ambitious new sustainability initiative, Green Week, alongside investment in its growing community garden.
Green Week was a five-day programme of interactive workshops and training sessions, designed to inspire sustainable living and climate action among learners, staff, and local residents. The initiative combined education with hands-on activities, helping people build practical skills. Activities included reducing food wastage, tips on reusable nappies, learning about solar energy, gardening workshops and an energy café giving practical advice on sustainable energy. Alongside this, participants took part in practical gardening sessions to transform an underused outdoor space into a vibrant, biodiverse community garden featuring fruit, vegetables, flowers, and bug hotels.
Our Carbon Literacy Training will offer participants the opportunity to gain recognised certification, as well as workshops focused on energy-saving, repair and reuse skills, and sustainable transport such as cycling.
The project is expected to benefit up to 2,000 adult learners annually, alongside staff and local partner organisations, reflecting the diverse communities served by Redbridge Institute
