As part of Volunteers’ Week, we’re shining a light on the amazing volunteers who give their time to support health, wellbeing and sustainability in our community.

Last Saturday, Alexandra Bates, Programme Manager at Redbridge Institute attended two volunteer-led events that show how much can be achieved through community spirit:

Wellness in Motion at Valentines Park Run

Over 400 people came together for the free 5k run in Valentines Park—a great way to boost both physical and mental wellbeing. These events happen every Saturday and are made possible by dedicated volunteers who organise, guide and cheer on the runners. It’s friendly, inclusive and a fantastic way to start the weekend!

Fix, Don’t Ditch: Repair & Energy Café

Later that day, Alexandra visited the Repair Café and Energy Café at Redbridge Central Library, run by the inspiring team at Transition Town Ilford. Volunteers helped people fix broken items and gave advice on saving energy at home. It’s all about sharing skills, cutting waste and supporting a greener Redbridge.

A big thank you to all the volunteers who give their time to help others. You make a real difference!
