The Autumn Term Learner Forum took place on Thursday 27 November 2025 at our Gants Hill campus, led by Maria Sotiriou, Assistant Principal for Curriculum. Eight learners from English, Maths, ESOL, Childcare and other areas joined the discussion, alongside tutors, support staff, and Governors. Maria welcomed both returning and new members, emphasising how important learner voice is in shaping a responsive and supportive learning environment. Councillor Joyce Ryan also shared her insights as Link Governor, highlighting the invaluable role of Learning Support Assistants.
The forum celebrated learner achievements, including RIAE learner Judith’s win at the Mayor of London Adult Learning Awards. Learners enjoyed a clip from the ceremony and a photo of Tammy and Judith receiving their awards from the Mayor. Maria also shared updates on improvements based on learner feedback, such as fire alarm and safety message updates during the second week of term and additional signage for Wudu facilities.
Learners explored ideas for reimagining the area around the “Shoreditch table,” now being rebranded as the Learning Lounge, and shared creative suggestions to make the space more inviting. Sustainability plans were also discussed, including Green Week 2026, cycling workshops, a Repair Café, the Gardening Club, and the Carbon Literacy planning meeting. Learners were invited to get involved and contribute ideas.
Volunteering opportunities were highlighted, including roles as Conversation Club Leaders, Gardening Club volunteers, and Digital Ambassadors, providing learners with ways to gain experience, develop skills, and contribute to the community. Maria also congratulated learners on achieving a 92–93% attendance rate and encouraged punctuality, noting its importance for learner success and college resources.
