Redbridge Institute is celebrating after being named a finalist in the inaugural Local London Vocational Innovation in Skills Training Awards (VISTAs), awarded Highly Commended in the Digital Learning and Excellence category, recognising its commitment to delivering high-quality education and opportunities for learners across the community.
The recognition highlights the institute’s ongoing efforts to provide inclusive learning opportunities, support personal and professional development, and help learners achieve their goals.
Redbridge Institute worked in collaboration with London South East Colleges (LSEC), Local London partners and the Bodyswaps team to pilot and embed immersive, AI-driven learning across its provision.
Through the Local Skills Improvement Fund, the Institute was able to access licences and hardware, creating the opportunity to test and evaluate the platform in real teaching environments. Rather than treating this as a standalone pilot, Redbridge adopted a whole-organisation approach to implementation.
The platform enables learners to enter a virtual environment and practise real-life scenarios such as job interviews and presentations. Its unique ‘body swap’ functionality allows learners to view their performance from another perspective, receiving detailed feedback on responses, delivery, body language and eye contact.
The use of Bodyswaps has had a significant positive impact on learner outcomes across learner confidence, communication skills development and progression into employment.
- 100% of residents reported that the platform was useful and helped improve their confidence in interview situations
- Redbridge learners demonstrated increased confidence, improved communication skills and greater readiness for employment
- 91% of Adult Skills learners successfully completed their courses
The benefits extend beyond the classroom. By supporting learners into employment and volunteering, the programme contributes to the local economy and helps employers access a confident, work-ready workforce.
